Senator Gravel, my Prez. candidate of choice in 2008, is traveling to S. Korea to attempt to assist their democracy in founding a modern National Initiative system.
It's a fascinating and noble venture to which I donated some money. I would love to see a real national initiative in practice that might be used as a model to bring power to the people here in the States.
Just the other day I was having a discussion with my parents about how the constitution does not technically afford the right to vote - and that lawmaking is the foundation of democracy, not voting. Think about it. Laws determine how voting happens. How, then, can voting be the foundation of democracy? It can't. And that's why representative democracy has proven itself to be inadequate (at least in diverse populations).
