I've worked on web and graphic designs for independent clients,
small businesses, and major corporations and have been designing my own
websites since 1996. Now that the tools for design on the web have
matured, the industry is becoming a fun place to work and experiment.

I believe in clean, uncluttered layouts with simple navigation. I strive to use many mediums together to create the best possible product. Generally I prefer standard HTML and CSS for its ease of use and standardization, both for my clients and for me. When more editable, modular and advanced projects are needed, I generally create the site around the Joomla content management system. I often integrate Flash with HTML to provide the best of both worlds - interactivity, motion, and sound with Flash combined with the search-engine friendly, simple, editable properties of HTML.

I use free, open source tools whenever possible, although I am well-versed in most of the big industry standards such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash. With the exception of Flash, DanConnor.com was made entirely with free, open source software. At the moment my favorite OS for web development is Ubuntu Linux. As developed by the open source community, I use straight up gEdit for coding, The GIMP for raster graphics, Inkscape for vector graphics, and I code first for Firefox, then KHTML/Safari, then adjusting for other browsers as needed.
